Dr. Dilolli and her staff really do enjoying seeing you and your family. But more than that we want to see your smile, so Dr. Dilolli and her staff really do enjoying seeing you and your family. But more than that we want to see your smile, so we can make sure your oral health is always its best. The American Dental Association recommends that everyone have at least two dental checkups each year, and we agree. With this regularity, we can help you have a clean and bright smile, as well as avoid dental trouble.
A checkup with the dentist Herndon trusts includes three parts: cleaning, exam and education. We trust that you brush and floss your teeth faithfully at home every day. However, there’s nothing like a professional cleaning. Our hygienists use special cleaning instruments, which allow us to remove surface stains that might otherwise begin to mar your smile. We’ll also floss in between your teeth to remove any plaque buildup.
A Dental Exam with the Herndon Dentist
During the exam portion of your dental checkup, we will take a close look at your teeth, your gums and your entire oral cavity and throat area. Dr. Dilolli will examine each tooth visually as well as on routine digital x-rays, looking for signs of decay, cracks or existing fillings that are in disrepair. Found early, these can all be conveniently treated. A cavity, for example, will be repaired with a tooth colored filling, while a fracture may require a dental crown.
Our hygienist will gently measure the depth of your gum pockets—the area immediately surrounding each tooth. A pocket that is too deep may be a sign of gum disease. Other signs are red and swollen gums that may bleed during flossing. If we do find that you have gum disease, then Dr. Dilolli will recommend periodontal therapy. This in-office procedure called scaling and root planing removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line and smoothes rough root surfaces.
We’ll also examine your entire mouth for any early warning signs of oral or pharyngeal cancer. This otherwise fatal disease is often curable when found early.
